Your life and your standards

Be in competition with yourself not somebody else. Yes were are a human ‘race’ but life isn’t a race it’s a journey. When Steve Jobs said ‘’Right now the new is you, but sometime not too long you will become the old and cleared away. Sorry to be dramatic but it’s quite true. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped on living with someone thoughts of how life should be.’’ I strongly believe when you competing with someone you are comparing yourself to them. Which means you are living on someone else’s standards of how life should be?

Do you think Steve Jobs would have ever achieved who he became if he compared himself to Sir Albert Einstein? Rather what do you think Sir Albert Einstein would have achieved if he compared himself to Sir Francis Bacon. See where I’m taking this? All these men have made history some are greater than others but I sure doubt they would been comparing themselves to anyone. It was more likely they paged through history books and saw all the great men in it, and they made it their goal to have theirs in it with a whole different path to everyone who did it before them.

What is the whole point to this? Well my point has already been made. You cannot walk or jog or sprint your own journey in life if you still live by someone else’s standard. You have it within you to set the highest of all standards and achieve things beyond your own imagination just like these three men I mentioned above, the key is competing with yourself, do better than you did the day before.

Yet it may sound so easy to achieve, but how possible is it? The core question you’d ask your self is ‘what do you want?’
What do you want?
I don’t think you would go places or achieve goals if you don’t know what you want out of life. Having a clearly defined goal is more like having a car that is ready to move. Without any clearly defined goals you would not move, because even if whatever you do at that time succeeds you will still not progress.  Why am I saying that? There is a saying that goes ‘’If you aim at nothing you will always hit your target’’ This saying just supports the statement I just mentioned above, when you aim at nothing whether you hit or not you still would have reached your target because you didn’t aim at all. The importance of goals comes into play in that instance, when you are looking for progress you need to have clearly defined goals in order to have a reference point of your progress at all times.

Know what you want, make goals and keep on improving your progress by doing better than you did yesterday, once you have achieved that you would’ve successfully competed with yourself and bettered yourself in so many ways.

Impossible is everything

Impossible surely should be what drives the human nature most. The most successful people have achieved what scholars from back in the olden days tracking to modern days said could not be achievable due to whatever specified reasons they gave. ''If you think you can or think you can't, either way you are right'' - Henry Ford (I). Henry Ford made history by building the first ever automobile ever to be built on earth; while the scholars said it wouldn't be possible for such a thing to be built. Logically at that time it was not possible for him to build such a thing, but regardless of the limited resources and the negative reception at his disposal he still believed he could.

Everyone wants to be successful. Yes we all don't want to become millionaires, not all of us want to become CEO's of big companies, not all of us want to become award winning musicians and so forth we want different things at different quantities, however whatever it is we want, we want to be successful. But what limits our capacity to succeed?

Fear
When you are afraid of failure you end up settling for whatever you have and spend the rest of your life wishing you were somebody else who is happy and living their own dreams. Understanding that fear is necessary and that it is meant to teach you about your short comings and should help develop a required skill in that department you are trying to master. Then you could go beyond your fears and start working towards your own dreams

No goals
Having no goals is more like a car without an engine. It can not go anywhere. Unless you have thought about your goals and have clearly decided what you want you can never move forward. Write your goals down and monitor your goals as often as you could because it will help keep track on your progress which is necessary for ensuring that they are achieved.

No motivation
When you are not motivated about doing something it becomes very difficult to succeed in it, because you will keep on finding more reasons why you shouldn't be doing it. Being motivated by something is needed because without the motivation you could not see the end of whatever it is you are doing. To become motivated about something, find out why you are doing what you are doing and keep it in mind at all times.

Some things are impossible but something aren't. There are 3 things you need to possess so that it may be impossible for you not to succeed.

Belief
''What a mind can conceive a body can achieve''.. Everything that is physical is a result of a thought or an idea. For any idea to become a reality faith is the genesis.

Have a plan
Having your goals written down really helps one to keep track on their progress. However writing your goals down may not be enough. In order for you to achieve them you need to have a plan how you will achieve them

Never give up
''For one that refuses to give up success is guaranteed''. Never give up, in anything you do in life your success will not come easy. You need to prepare yourself that things will get challenging but make that decision that whatever happens you won't give up.

How Bad do you want it?

So there was this young man who approached a mogul said to him ''Sir I want you to teach me how to be successful'' the mogul replied ''meet me at the beach at 4am tomorrow''. The young man showed up 4am at the beach all dressed up with his suite and tie. The mogul went into the water and he called up this young man into the water. The young man dedicated to impress he got into the water waist deep the mogul said to him ''come in further''. The young man thinking to himself ''I said i wanted to learn how to become successful not to swim!!'' he gestured some irritation to the mogul. The mogul called up the boy to come further more. As the boy came, he quickly grabbed him put him face down into the water. The boy was drowning, he flapped, tried fighting but the mogul's grip was too firm. After a minute he took the young man out of the water. He asked him a question he said ''when you were down there, what was the only thing you wanted badly'', the young man replied ''I wanted to breath''. The mogul said to the young man ''the only time you are going to be successful in life is when you want to succeed as badly as you wanted to breath!''

How bad do you want it?
I came across this story at the hardest time in my life, it was a time when I saw myself as a failure in life. To cut my tale very short this type of story reminded me that as bad as your circumstances can be your success will only depend on one basic paragon ''how bad do you want it?''. It was then I thought of the guys that made it against all odds, guys like Stevie Wonder who became successful regardless of his blindness, guys like the greatest composer of all time Beethoven who composed the best classical songs of all time regardless of his disability of being deaf. It was then I remembered that the company Microsoft, their first capital was a vision and the company co-owned by a college dropout  at that time Mr Bill Gates which would count as huge disadvantage to investors who would invest in the newly found company. Don't get me wrong If you still in college finish your studies by all means, I'm not saying go drop out and try starting your own company just because Mr Bill Gates did it and became successful. The point is, regardless of all the challenges that were presented with all these great achievers they still made it.

The difference in these people from an ordinary person would be, 'a sample of their desire' to achieve what they have set up for themselves versus yours. Some of us say we want to become successful but are not really willing to put up the required amount of work needed to be successful. We say we want to become the best but we do not want to even think like the best. This is what I want you to remember, your thoughts come first then your action will follow. Meaning you become who you think you are, you need to think like the best in order to become the best. Think big then you will become big.

You need to want it bad before you can have it bad!! Just remember this You can do it, you will do it, it's done!!
